RULES AND REGULATIONS

DATES

AUDITIONS:  MAY 21, 2017 from  12pm -7pm

COMPETITION:  MAY 25, 2017  at 8:00pm

ENTRY FEE

A $25 non-refundable entry fee must be paid before performers can audition for the competition.  This is non-negotiable.  All funds must be paid in full at the start of the audition.  This fee is required of each performer, be they solo, duet, or group.  Each contestant must pay this fee.

CONTESTANTS

Contestants may enter the competition as soloist, duet, or group.  Groups will be limited to 8 persons.

 

This competition is broken down by age groups.  Persons wishing to enter as a group or duo will compete against soloists if their ages belong in the same category.  We will not seperate the groupings based on numbers of participants per piece.

 

 

PERFORMANCE

Performances must be limited to three minutes.  Anything over will be considered a direct violation of competition and could be disqualified.  ARTSCENTRIC reserves the right to discuss with participants their disqualification if it is a necessary discussion.

 

PRELIMINARY/ QUALIFYING ROUND

All decisions from the Judges are final.  Consultations with judges will not be available.

The judges will score and rank the contestants from first to fifth place.   Only the top five in each category will move on to the final round.  In the event of a tie, participants will select a new song for a second performance. The winner of the tie- breaking performance will be the finalist.  All contestants will be notified of their qualifications on Sunday, May 21, 2017 by 10:00pm EST.

 

AUDITION JUDGING

Judging Criteria: The  preliminary judges will base their decisions on the following four criteria:

Contestants must agree that all decisions of the panel of judges are final. Contestants must also agree that the time, manner, and method of judging the audition is at the discretion of ARTSCENTRIC. 

 

Each audition will be evaluated on the following five judging elements:

1.) Technique – 40 points total

2.) Stage Presence – 25 points total

3.) Choreography – 20 points total

4.) Execution of Performance – 10 points total

5.) Overall Appearance – 5 points total

There is a maximum of 100 points per judge and the total points attainable varies per level. If a dance, costume, or music is deemed inappropriate for family viewing by the judging panel, it will be scored lower by judges.  

 

PROPS

All props must be mobile and under the watch of someone from your studio at all times.

-Props must be brought on and off stage in a timely manner (1 minute maximum).

-Props may not be in the wings for more than a few numbers prior to the routine (based on the stage manager’s discrection). -Props must be removed from the wings immediately after the routine.

-Props must be stored away from pedestrian & vehicle traffic & NOT back stage, in the lobby or any inconvenient location. -Fire, swords, knives, guns, live animals, powders, liquids, glitter, confetti, paint, sand, etc. are NOT allowed.

-Routines causing prop delay may be subject to a performer’s disqualification.

-Prop coordinators are required to follow ALL instructions as per the ARTSCENTRIC stage crew at ALL times. 

-All props must fit through a standard 36 inch wide doorway

-Props cannot be stored in the venue until the day of the performance

MUSIC

All music must be cut and edited upon submission to ARTSCENTRIC. Our staff is not capable of making music edits or alterations onsite. All tempos must be correct on each track. Music containing inappropriate lyrics will be subject to disqualification. Music must be of a reasonable volume and submitted at the START of the event. Studio owners should have at least two backup copies of all music. 

 

SPORTSMANSHIP

All competitors, teachers, studios owners, family members and audience members are required to show respect, courtesy and sportsman-like behavior to all competitors, staff, teachers, etc. at all times during the competition. We aim to create a healthy competitive environment in which dancers can enjoy themselves while gaining valuable performance experience as well learning the nature of healthy competition and enjoying their experience. We reserve the right to remove anyone from an event if he/she is hindering the achievement of any of the above goals. No air horns, bells, whistles or other noise making devices are allowed.

FINAL ROUND

The winners will be determined by the audience.  Ballots will be confidentially sealed and collected by ARTSCENTRIC personnel.  One ballot per each audience member.  The votes will be tallied and the performer(s) with the most votes from the audience will be determined the winner.

REFUNDS

No cash refunds will be issued under any circumstances. Account credits will ONLY be given for injured/sick competitors with a legitimate doctor’s note.

CANCELLATIONS

ARTSCENTRIC reserves the right to cancel any and all events due to lack of registration, inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Furthermore, ARTSCENTRIC reserves the right to change an event’s location, venue and/or date(s). Upon changing a location, venue and/or date(s), a representative from ARTSCENTRIC will contact you. ARTSCENTRIC will not be held liable for any costs endured for any type of travel arrangements made upon cancelling an event or an event selling out, including but not limited to: hotel fees, transportation costs or bank fees. We HIGHLY recommend registering for an event prior to making ANY travel arrangements.

ADDITIONAL RULES

Smoking is prohibited in/around the competition area. We ask that all smokers stand at least 50 yards from the competition venue to preserve the well- being of our dancers, audience members and our staff members.

 

Unless a piece of choreography has been copy written, ARTSCENTRIC cannot enforce any plagiarism policies.

 

Dancers may NOT exit or jump off the front of the stage at any time during the event.

We ask that all competitors and attendees alike please wear proper footwear at all times at all events to ensure their safety.

ARTSCENTRIC and WAXTER CENTER are not responsible for any personal injury/property loss before, during or after the event. All competitors will be judged by a well-qualified panel of judges. All judging decisions are final.

 

Video cameras and still cameras are prohibited inside all competition venues. In order to protect the choreographer’s right and the safety and privacy of all competitors, we reserve the right to confiscate all recording devices used during an event and/or disqualify an entry. All competitors, teachers and studio owners consent to the use of video, audio and photographs for use in promotional material without royalty, fee or other compensation. By attending or competing in a ARTSCENTRIC event you are agreeing to the use of your image and likeness by ARTSCENTRIC INC. and all partners and affiliates.

 

All competitors, teachers, studios owners, family members and audience members are required to comply with rules and regulations set forth by our hosting venue. Those who do not may be removed from the event by either ARTSCENTRIC staff or the hosting venue’s staff.

 

Competitors, teachers, studio owners and prop coordinators are the only persons allowed in the wings/backstage. In order to minimize delay we ask that all parents, family members and audience members remain in the main venue or the lobby.

 

If a routine cannot perform during their allotted time, the routine will be eligible for adjudication, but not an overall score.

 

All media is delivered in digital format.
