  • Grand Finale:

  • This summer, ArtsCentric Summer Institute (ASI) is thrilled to present a vibrant, joyous musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy: Twelfth Night, by phenomenal creators Kwame Kwei-Armah (One Love: The Bob Marley Musical) and Shaina Taub (Suffs). This isn't your traditional Shakespeare. It’s a soulful, joyful, and brilliantly reimagined celebration of mistaken identity, longing, and the dizzying pursuit of love. Set to an infectious score that blends jazz, funk, and pop, this production pulses with contemporary energy and timeless heart.

FAQ

AUDITIONS

1. How do I get into ASI? What are the eligibility requirement?

ArtsCentric Summer Institute is open to teens and young adults ages 14 - 22 years of age. All must audition

2. What do I need to prepare for my audition?

We want to see the best version of you. All you have to do is perform 16-32 bars of a song of your choosing and a 1-minute monologue. No profane or vulgar material please. Bring an additional song in your binder, in case we ask to hear something else.

3. Can I perform something acapella?

There will be an accompanist present so we ask that you bring sheet music. Choose a song in a key that is comfortable for you.

4.  Do I need to perform in a specific style?

No, perform whatever you do best. We just want to get to know your artistry.

5. I've never recorded an audition before. What should I do?

First, take a deep breath! This doesn't have to be stressful. You will want to find a quiet place with good lighting where you can record your audition. If you can find a wall with a solid background to stand in front of that would be great, if not, that's okay.

*If you're using your phone to record, make sure it's in the horizontal position. We want to see from your torso up to the top of your head. Be sure the music is loud enough (but not too loud) to be heard in the recording. You may want to record a practice round and review it to check that everything looks and sounds good.

6. I don't have a headshot or résumé, what do I do?

We want to see you. For submissions, upload a current picture of yourself that you like. It should represent who you are right now. The picture should be from the last thirty days.

*For in-person auditions, you should print out your picture or headshot.

If you don't have a resume, feel free to type on a sheet of paper that you have no stage experience. If you've done anything at all, even if it was in church or when you were a toddler, feel free to add all of that in. Upload it into the audition form.

For in-person auditions, you would staple your headshot/picture and resume together, back to back.

7, Will there be another audition date?

If we feel we need to see more talent, we will post another audition announcement on our social media pages and website.

8. Will there be callbacks? While we don't typically hold callbacks, if we need to see more from an individual, they will be contacted via email.

*9.  I’m a parent/guardian, may I visit and observe classes?

We ask that parents/guardians not visit classes as we have found it to be a distraction to the students. You will have an opportunity to see what your child has been working on, at their final performances.

10.  Will there be a parent meeting for general information?

Yes, and those details will be sent once students have been accepted into the program. We encourage parents/guardians to attend this important meeting as you will have the opportunity to meet our staff, learn about program expectations, and ask questions.
